Voltage and Power Standards : The US-based SAE organization defines three different levels of charging according to the voltage output and power consumption. Level 1 charging is defined as using a standard 120 volt AC outlet found in the house to charge up the electric vehicle. The Level 1 charging is recommended to all those who wish to have their vehicles charged up for a smaller distance or used to commute.

The Level 2 charging stations range from garages to some slow public charges available on the highway and in the city.
